Come tomorrow, everyone will be headed to the lake for a day of celebration and a night full of fireworks. To help bring the spirit of Independence Day onboard your houseboat, here are some perfect all-American recipes to whip up for the big day. Drink: Orange Summer Cooler

Ingredients:

2 cups orange juice

2 cups cold water

2 cups orange sherbet

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup confectioners' sugar

3 cups crushed ice

Directions:

Blend the orange juice, water, orange sherbet, vanilla, confectioners' sugar, and ice in a blender until smooth. Enjoy!

Side Dish: Fourth of July Potato Salad

Ingredients:

3 pounds potatoes (peeled/diced)

1/3 cup cider vinegar

2 teaspoons white sugar

1 1/2 teaspoons dry mustard

1 1/2 teaspoons salt

3/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 cup mayo

1/2 cup sour cream

1/4 cup heavy cream

3/4 cup chopped onion

3 hard-cooked eggs (peeled/chopped)

Directions:

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the potatoes until tender. Whisk the vinegar, sugar, mustard, salt and pepper in a large bowl. Drain the potatoes, add them to the vinegar mix and let everything sit for 30 minutes. In a small bowl, whisk the mayonnaise, sour cream and heavy cream, then fold into the potato mixture. Fold in the onions and eggs. Cover and refrigerate (if desired) before serving.

Dinner: Simple Country Ribs

Ingredients:

2 1/2 pounds pork spareribs

2 (18 oz.) bottles bbq sauce

1 onion, quartered

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Directions:

Place spareribs, barbeque sauce, onion, salt, and pepper in a large stock pot. Add enough water to cover, bring to a low boil, and cook about 40 minutes. Preheat the grill for high heat, lightly oil the grate, and place the ribs on the grill. Use the barbeque sauce in the saucepan to baste your ribs while grilling. Baste and turn ribs frequently for 20 minutes (or until nicely browned).

Dessert: American Apple Pie

Ingredients:

1/3 cup packed brown sugar

1/3 cup white sugar

1 tablespoon flour

1 teaspoon lemon juice

1/3 teaspoon cinnamon

7 1/2 cups apples (peeled/cored/sliced)

1 cup raisins

1 recipe pastry for a 9-inch double crust pie

1 egg

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 425 °F and spray a deep dish pie plate with cooking spray.

Thoroughly mix white sugar, brown sugar, flour, lemon, and cinnamon. Add the apples and raisins, stirring until the fruit is well-coated. Spoon the apple mix into the pie crust, place the second piecrust on top, and trim the edges. Lightly glaze the top of the pie with a beaten egg, sprinkle a little sugar on top, and bake until golden brown (about 35 to 40 minutes). Place on a wire rack to cool for 30 minutes before digging in.
