For some of us, our houseboats give us just the right environment for the ultimate relaxation or the ultimate fun-seeking. Then there are those who might just find a safe place for inspiration to strike—like author Geffrey Kane. According to The Southern Star, Geffrey and his partner Siobhán have lived aboard the Granuaile in Kinsale, Ireland for the past few years, and though the couple had no experience in boat maintenance, they decided to buy the 1961 pleasure boat when its owner put it up for sale. They were able to work out a beautiful restoration and have loved living at Castlepark Marina with their dog, George.
‘We’ve always wanted to do something like this,” Geffrey told The Southern Star. Though he admits there’s still work to be done and the wooden hull means there’s a lot of maintenance ahead of them, they’re still perfectly enjoying life as liveaboards.
Geffrey is also getting ready to release a supernatural thriller, “Recreant,” this month.
The author had been toying with the story for several years before he was ready to publish.
“I’d annoy my partner Siobhán with it and she would say “just publish it or shut up”, so she lit a fire under me,” he said.
