What started with a simple “yes!” from my sister-in-law to a marriage proposal resulted in a relaxing weekend for my own bride and me aboard a delightful rental houseboat in boat-friendly Bradenton, Fla.

When we learned that Maria’s little sis was to be married in an al fresco Pass-A-Grille, Fla., beach ceremony, we started looking for a place to stay nearby for the St. Petersburg-area nuptials. Involving a five-state, 15-hour, thousand-mile drive each way from our Ohio home to our favorite spring break destination state, we wanted to extend our stay and enjoy a mini break from work.
