Westerbeke Corporation just introduced their new 5.5 EGCD marine diesel generator set, and it's got a lot going for it. Rated 5.5kW at 60Hz, this bad boy is powered by a compact .95-liter, three-cylinder engine operating at a low 1800 rpm for smooth, quiet run time. The 5.5 EGCD also offers a new belt-driven, 50 amp DC battery charging alternator and incorporates standard electronic governing. The result? Cleaner emissions and improved speed control which virtually eliminates “droop” whenever load is applied or removed. The 5.5 EGCD meets all current EPA emissions requirements and comes with additional standard features such as overspeed, underspeed, low oil pressure, high exhaust and high coolant temperature safety shutdowns as well as a standard AC circuit breaker. A modernized start/stop and monitoring system, as well as the gauge panel and remote start/stop panel, are all completely new. One thing that hasn’t changed is the physical size, making upgrading from the previous generation simple since they can fit in the same sound guard. Check out more information here!
