BBC News put together a neat video spotlight showing viewers around the Shieldsman, a former passenger ferry that Caroline Drake converted into her own personal houseboat. Before the ferry was retired in 2007, thousands of feet passed across her deck for thirty years as everyone was carried daily across the River Thames.
Since the days of the past, the Shieldsman underwent some exciting renovation work and was brought to moor on the River Adur in West Sussex. Some reminders of this ferry's past remain onboard, including the life jacket container that Caroline upgraded to a beautiful fish tank. The ferry-turned-houseboat uses solar panels for power and now has several converted bedrooms, including her daughter’s in the old wheelhouse.
