To celebrate this year's GreenHome NYC DIY Green Block Party, `Jerko the Gowanus Water Vacuum' will take its Maiden Voyage October 2nd, floating along the Gowanus Canal - one of New York's most environmentally disturbed waterways. Designed by artist Adam Katzman, the Jerko has been constructed from a salvaged houseboat and transformed into a laboratory and show space for the block party's sustainability workshops. From its parabolic solar tea maker (created from broken mirrors and a dumpstered satellite dish) to its living machine (made out of pickle buckets, wetland plants and pvc), this rough-and-ready design marries do-it-yourself garage engineering with sustainable design principles.
Come early to pre-register for limited on-board tours and experience the Gowanus Canal's first home-made boat.
Where: Green Homes NYC's DIY Green Block Party at 3rd St (Between Bond and Hoyt)
When: Saturday, October 2nd, 2010 from 10am-6pm; Fleet arrival, christening celebration and pre-registration for a limited number of people from 1:30pm; Jerko onboard tours (pre-registration required) from 3-5pm
