July 2010 News Trade Only Today

A small electrical fire broke out Wednesday night at Mercury Marine's plant in Fond du Lac, Wis., when water from heavy storms reached an electrical source in the company's die-cast facility and shorted out an induction furnace.

The fire, which occurred in an isolated and contained area of Plant 17, was quickly contained. There were no injuries and production at the plant was not affected, the company said.

No official estimate regarding the damage has been determined. The affected furnace was one of three in that facility.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:45 p.m. when rainwater from major storms backed up and reached the electrical system. The Fond du Lac Fire Department responded immediately and approximately 30 employees were safely evacuated and accounted for, according to Mercury Marine.
