D.C. boat show postponed until next year

February 2009 News Trade Only Today

Organizers of the Washington Boat Show have cancelled this year's event, and plan to hold it again Feb. 11-15, 2010.

The show had been scheduled for Feb. 19-22 at the Washington (D.C.) Convention Center.

"I just felt that the economy was such that it wasn't the time to hold the boat show in Washington, D.C., either for the boating public or the marine dealers," show producer Tom Stafford told Soundings Trade Only this morning.

Stafford has produced shows for more than 34 years and said this year, "the climate just didn't seem proper."

"I've seen ups and downs. I have faith in America and the boating public. I know it's going to rebound and probably by this summer, just not in time for a February show," he added.
