The company is nearing the end of a multiyear program to re-engineer its products to alternative refrigerant compounds, in accordance with international agreements to phase out the use of ozone-depleting chemicals.
By midyear, all of Dometic's remaining direct-expansion and chilled-water systems - sold worldwide under the Cruisair, Marine Air and Condaria brands - will be switched to an environmentally safe refrigerant.
The company says this will bring its complete product line into compliance ahead of the 2010 deadline specified in the Montreal Protocol for phase-out of R22 worldwide.
"During the last few years, we have gradually phased in the new refrigerants, working carefully with our customers to ensure a seamless and painless switchover with a minimum of disruption," said Frank Marciano, president of Dometic, Environmental Division.
"We have delivered 400-series green-gas products to our customers for many years, based upon international regulations and customer requests. We will continue working with our distributors and dealers to ensure a smooth transition for our large existing installed base of products as supplies of R22 become increasingly less available and more expensive," he added.
