| Safety Turtle® celebrates its 10th birthday
Terrapin Communications researched, developed, and manufactured the award winning (2004 winner of Canada’s prestigious Manning Innovation Award - http://www.manningawards.ca/awards/winners/index.shtml ) Safety Turtle. Safety Turtle is an effective “last line of defence” to protect children [and others] and even pets from incidents in a wide variety of water-related environments ranging from backyard pools, spas, ponds, boats, and waterfronts. North American aquatic facilities such as the YMCA in the United States use Turtles on their rescue tubes to automatically alert the initiation of a rescue, and higher risk patients such as stroke victims wear Turtle visors during [supervised] water exercise.
The Safety Turtle consists of a locking wrist band with a Turtle sensor (like a watch) that is wirelessly connected to a Base Station that sounds an alarm when the Turtle is immersed in water. [Some restrictions apply to use with salt water.] It meets all government safety requirements for children and is recognized in the ASTM Pool Alarm Standard FF2208-2. This unique product has been on the market in North America since 1998 and has sold over 100,000 units. SkyMall magazine has been selling Safety Turtle to international and domestic passengers since 2002. In 2004 the Turtle was introduced in Europe, South Africa, and other markets requiring CE compliance.

In 2006, Terrapin launched the Safety Turtle wireless gate alarm, which ensures residents are reliably alerted the moment a child opens a monitored gate or the gate remains unlatched more than 11 seconds after release of its adult bypass switch. Any number of identically coded Turtle and gate sensors work with one Base Station.
